It takes a lot of metal to make a 3/4 ton robot. This is the story of that metal. Origins Groundhog's existance started with the cannabilzation of another robot to get a chassis.Chassis-in-a-Day Ironmongering, welding, grinding, and a little gentle persuassion beat Groundhog's chassis into something close to its present state.Electric Groundhog Once the chassis was in shape, the drive train and steering are connected, and Groundhog becomes self propelled.Hydraulic Groundhog The retrofit to hydraulics was a long and painful process, but in the end it paid off.Finishing Touches Sensor mountings, chain tensioners, different gear ratios, and the removal of a very stubborn bearing mount occur as Groundhog takes its present form. | |
