Google Lunar X Prize

Carnegie Mellon Roboticists are currently developing a lunar rover to be part of the first commercial mission to the moon. Supported by Astrobotic Technology, this robot will land in the Sea of Tranquility and broadcast back High Definition video as it traverses the lunar terrain to Apollo 11. In completing its Tranquility Trek, the rover will also fulfill all the requirements of the Google Lunar X PRIZE. Red Rover will become the first privately funded space robot to traverse the moon, jump starting an era of space robotic services.
