January 24 Meeting

Today's meeting was very productive! Thursdays are when the girls on the drive team work on their drive team stuff while the normal meeting is going on. The girls on the drive team are working on a practice six wheel chassis so they can be well rounded in each part of the team: electronics, mechanical, and even some programming. They pretty much built the whole robot themselves, which includes the chassis, an electronics board, and even the prototype shooter that was already built.  They're hoping to get it running soon so they can…continue reading →

January 22 Meeting

At the beginning of the meeting on Tuesday, January 22, each of the team leaders talked about what their group completed within the past week and what needs to be done. The parts are coming along well, and there are a lot of small changes being made to make everything worked out as planned. An issue that was brought to the girls’ attention at the beginning of the meeting is that the shooter may be a problem or may need to be altered to fit on our robot.  In the end, we decided…continue reading →

Tuesday, January 15th Meeting

At Tuesday's meeting we decided on the name for our robot! The name chosen was "Eve" as in the robot Eve from the movie Wall-e! A new system for keeping track of how much each girl contributes was presented at the meeting as well. Rather than girls focusing on coming a certain number of hours each week, a point system was made. Originally it was suggested that girls come to robotics around 10-15 hours a week, but now they are aiming for at least 10 points a week. We have a task board…continue reading →

Monday January 7-Day 3

It's day 3 of build season and there is so much to do! On Saturday after the kick off video, we all reconvened to decide what our main focus would be, but it turned out to be a tie.  It was between focusing on shooting or climbing.  We took another vote and shooting won by one point! Next, it's time to prototype all the different ideas we have for the robot. Way to go girls!  continue reading →

Kickoff-January 5, 2013

The whole auditorium was buzzing with excitement even at 8:30 AM on Saturday, January 5, the morning of the FRC kick off for 2013.  There were just a few people who were still trying to wake up with some coffee and donuts graciously provided by some volunteers from different Pittsburgh teams. A number of people spoke to the crowd including Patricia DePra, the Western Pennsylvania FIRST coordinator.  She quickly got everyone out of their daze.  Her excitement was extremely contagious and got everyone hyped up for the video that was to start at…continue reading →

December 11, 2012 Preseason Meeting

During this past Tuesday’s meeting, the girls talked about various updates and announcements involving the sub-teams, including goals, outreach events like the Romibo Project, and future events and programs. Another major thing that came up in the meeting is that this past meeting is the last preseason meeting before build season. Brace yourselves, ladies! As the girls on the team strive to learn and get things accomplished, they also work hard in their individual sub teams. Here are updates on the groups from the girls themselves! “In the mechanical team we finished measuring…continue reading →
