Related Sites Life in the Atacama 2003-06 The Life in the Atacama project is developing the methods and technologies by which robots can seek life in extreme environments analygous to those known or expected on the planetary bodies of our solar system. Exploration techniques combining regional sampling and detailed measurements of individual targets use mature technologies for robotic navigation and autonomy. A dramatic increase in the volume of data collected by rover instruments per command cycle will translate into substantial productivity increases for future planetary exploration missions. Sun-Synchronous Robotic Exploration 2001Sun-synchronous robotic exploration is a means to perpetual operation on planetary surfaces. Development of power-cognizant navigational techniques and efficient solar-powered rovers were the initial focus of this work. |
